Rotary Saves Lives: Blood Donor Days

Project Idea: Popularizing blood donation and enhancing Rotary recognition among citizens in Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities.

Project Mission: Blood donation exemplifies service to society, where individuals give to others, and their bodies renew in return.

Project Goal: Establish blood donation as a regular Rotary club event, occurring every 2-3 months. Expand the audience of regular donors, associate blood donation with Kharkiv Rotary, and assist other Rotary clubs in Ukraine in making blood donation a routine community event.

Background: The Kharkiv Regional Center of Blood Service reports a shortage of all blood types in our city. Given Kharkiv’s proximity to the frontline and ongoing emergency medical needs, Rotary Club „Kharkiv Nadiya“ collaborated with the center to organize three donor days last year at our office. We successfully collected 57.5 liters of blood, potentially saving 300 lives, with 150 participants including Rotarians, Rotaractors, their families, and friends.

Future Plans: We aspire to continue Rotary Blood Donor Days in 2024 and extend this impactful project to other cities in Ukraine. To ensure a sustained impact, we are seeking a donation of $2350 to conduct five donor days in Kharkiv. Each $470 covers venue maintenance, refreshments, transportation, and crucial media support for one Blood Donation Day. Utilizing both printed and digital media, we aim to promote blood donation, associating Rotary with impactful acts of goodness.
